For years, I swung from one role to the next like a pendulum, caught in the endless rush of life. I was once an architect, before finding my way into the personal care industry, drawn by its unique blend of sensory experience and science.

We’ve long been told to pursue what we truly love because passion gives us the strength to keep going for the long run. So, I chose to listen to my heart and enter a world I had always dreamed of: a world of aroma, beauty, and creativity.

But turning my passion into a profession brought an unexpected challenge that I eventually ended up pleasing others rather than myself.

Back in college, I would lose myself at perfume counters, testing one scent after another.
I remember nervously asking beauty advisors for samples because I was barely scraping together enough from extra shifts to afford another bottle.

When perfumery later became my profession, it was no longer the distant dream I had over the counter.
Every scent was suddenly within my grasp. The ingredients that had once filled me with wonder, from exotic Damask rose to bitter Sicilian neroli, became labels on bottles, materials I could measure, adjust, and recreate. Slowly, they lost their charm.

I’ve always had an unusually acute sense of smell which became one of my greatest strengths. Over time, I became focused on reading trends and meeting what my clients and the market wanted rather than listening to my own feelings. Too much thinking and far too little feeling, for a while, I genuinely believed that I would never love perfume the way I once did. Perhaps my nose had simply grown tired and I had lost my connection to scents forever.

Yet in that fleeting moment, the fading blossom and the ancient, enduring stone carried the exact same weight of beauty — a source of certainty and strength. Perhaps I had been searching too hard. Beauty never asks to be explained, simply felt. Once again, my senses came alive.
